Samba for RHEL4

The Samba3 packages for RHEL4 from SerNet look a bit different than the original Samba packages from Red Hat. The reason is that we decided that the package splitting we used for the SuSE Samba RPMs is more useful than the way Red Hat splits up the Samba packages and we want to make our SerNet Samba packages as consistent as possible.

Feature items:

  • Prefix "samba3-" so they cannot be updated by Red Hat update packages accidently.
  • Support for NTLM authentication also in Active Directory domains if security = domain ist used instead of security = ads.
  • Patches which we consider to be too experimental for production machines are being removed while other patches for problems that we encountered are being added.
